The St. Francis Wildlife Association held its 1st annual golf tournament November 15, 2010 at the Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club, in Tallahassee, FL. The tournament raised $10 thousand to support the wildlife rehabilitation hospital and operations.

Turn out for the inaugural event was tremendous with 16 teams competing for team and individual awards. Prize sponsors included Orlando World Center Marriott Resort, Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club, and Southwood Golf Club.

St. Francis Wildlife educational director, Sandy Beck, and her partner, Cedar, the Barred Owl, welcomed volunteers and golfers during registration.

“The weather held up beautifully and the resident foxes at Golden Eagle greeted us as we completed the course,” said sponsor Joyce Phipps.

Lynn Haven’s Panama Country Club members, the Hackin’ Dogs team (Alton Colvin, Tom Jones, Buzz Leonard, and Dr. Curtis Williams) placed 1st with a net 54. The Bogan Management Company team (Bill Bogan, Anthony Battle, Kendall Lindsey, and Kenny Knox) placed 2nd with a net 55, followed by Joyce V. Phipps’ team (Phillip Parsons, Bill Parsons, Randy Cofield, and Frank Gomez) with a net 56. Individual winners for cash prizes were Anthony Battle (long drive), Keith McDonald (long drive), Mike Sullivan (closest to the pin), Jerry Swerczek (closest to the pin), and Alton Colvin (longest putt).

Tournament sponsors were Joyce V. Phipps, Bloomingdeals of Havana, Tallahassee Land Company and Monticello Karting & Motor Club. Other businesses that contributed were Galloway Brennan, P.A., McNeill Plumbing, Triumph Sports and Wellness, TALCOR, Stewart Nelson Photography, and USA Photo and Graphics. Please thank them when you patronize these great businesses!

Although this was certainly a team effort, board member Teresa Colvin was the event coordinator, and it was her enthusiasm and dedication that made it happen!
