DOGGONE IMPORTANT MEETING!

The youngest PAWS Club members at the School of Arts and Science kicked off their first meeting with a focus on dogs. They are proof positive that people of all ages can help animals. Chantel Bottoms is coordinating this group of animal lovers.

The kids talked about why dogs need to always wear collars with I.D. and rabies tags. And they learned why it's so important for all dogs to be trained.

The club has begun working on its banner for Responsible Pet Ownership Day at TLC Animal Service Center on Sunday, September 19. Dog training demonstrations will take place and dog owners who want their dogs to take the 10-part Canine Good Citizen test canbring their canines to take part in that.

Tiffiny Hewitt-Brown's PAWS Club members at the School of Arts and Sciences are starting young to help their community! They helped their teacher put labels on hundreds of "poop bags" to distribute to the members of a neighborhood association. The labels instructed people on how they could beresponsible pet owners --and good neighbors -- and always take a plastic bag with them when they walk their dogs. It's not only vital to walk a dog on a leash. It's important to pick up the poop (with a plastic bag) that your pet leaves behind so you can keep your neighborhood clean and your neighbors happy!

Have you done a project that helps your neighborhood---or school! Please report your results so we can put your PAWS Club photos on the website! Have you done a project to remind people how important it is to spay-neuter their pets?

We have just finished the "First Annual Shoebox Drive." We collected over $500 and zillions of shoeboxes for kittens at the Animal Shelter.

The sixth graders really got into this drive! We will see you and Jan next week!

We are having a Shoebox collection for orphaned kittens at the Animal Sheleter contest between homerooms; we have about fifty or so shoeboxes. Kids can donate 50 cents to count for a shoebox. The homeroom with the most wins a party. We have about $20.00, but we still have all next week to go.

Two members set up a lemonade stand last weekend (precious little girls, Hannah LaVia and Karen Stuart) and made $50 selling lemonade.

We have over $200 in our club acount right now! We meet Friday afternoons, 2:45 till 3:15. I thought it would be wonderful if St. Francis Wildlife and the Animal Shelter could attend a meeting and do a talk just like you did for the teachers. It was very inspiring. Tomorrow we are going over the Animal Shelter wish list and getting started on that. That's about all we've had time for.
